Fat-Weight Loss Strategies - Don’t Let It be a Dream - You Too Can be Lean

I have devoted the last 20 years of my life to Health & Fitness Nutrition. Having tried diets and food programs that work for a short period, or simply don’t deliver at all. Through trial and error I have found that there is no magic potion. No amazing pill or workout that will deliver the results we all would like. Sure there are plenty of advertisments claiming that you can lose 20 pounds in two weeks. This is not the case. A sound exercise and nutritional program need to be in place to achieve life long weight management.  

What I realized with my own weight loss goals is the following: It is not going to the gym or working with a personal trainer three days per week that will get you to attain a certain level of fitness. There are critical steps that need to be adressed and taken in order to lose weight (bodyfat) and keep it off for good.  

Without these key steps you may not reach you fitness goals, period.  

Here are the steps that helped me lose over 130 pounds. Going from 322 lbs. with a 55 inch waist. Down to my current weight of 188 pounds and a 31 inch waist. DO NOT EXPECT THIS TO HAPPEN OVER NIGHT.

  Step 1)  

Find A Motivating Factor For Losing Body Fat-Weight:  

This will be something personal to you. Something that will give you a burning desire day in and day out. Its easy to accomplish weight loss with a burning desire. Example: I received pictures back from a wedding that made me look like I’ve never worked out a day in my life. I put them on my fridge to remind me to choose my food wisely.  

Step 2)  

Set Short Term And Long Term Attainable Goals:  

It is important to write down your long term goals first. Then create short term goals that are easily attainable in the beginning. This will create momentum. Make sure each time you set new goals they give you more of a challange. You must constantly raise your self standards.  

Step 3)  

Throw All Foods Out That Will Hinder Your Goals:  

This may be in the form of your favorite sodas, candies, cakes, breads, enriched white breads, enriched wheat breads your favorite sugared cereals, etc…. You know deep down what is good and what is not. We are bombarded by both healthy and unhealthy foods everyday. You must make the choice!  

Step 4)   Replace Those Unhealthy Foods With Healthy Alternative:  

Foods like vegetables, beans, grains, lowfat dairy, skim milk, and lean meats like chicken, fish, lean turkey, fruits and yes even healthy fats like almonds, cashews, natural peanut butter, canola oil, flaxseed oil, olive oil, and peanut oil. Do not abuse these fats they should be kept to a minimum.  

Step 5)   Start Of Slow. If You Come Out Like A Race Horse You Won’t Last Long:

  Slowly incorporate healthy foods into your diet. If you are not active walk 2 - 3 times per week 15 to 30 minutes for 2 weeks. You want to do this before starting a strength routine or high impact cardio training. Remember to increase eating healthy and exercise as it gets easy for you. You should always consult with your healthcare professional before starting any exercise program.

  Step 6)  

Persistance Is The Key:  

We all have those bad days where we eat unhealthy, sleep 5 hours, or just have no motivation to work out. If you are someone who falls into this catagory it is important not to lose focus. Just start the next day with a clean slate. Decide you can create anything you can desire. That your past failures are in the past. Before you know it your body will be ready for the beach!

Fasting for Weight Loss can be Safe

Fasting is a way of dieting that can be for weight reduction or for detoxifying your body.  If you are considering fasting for weight loss, then you’ll likely abstain from all solid foods and only drink liquids for a particular amount of time.  There are numerous favored fasting diets on the market and a large amount of them include drinking fruit juices.  Fasting intermittently can help increase your fat burning potential, and augment your energy levels. 

Since you won’t be eating solid food while you are fasting, you will not be getting all the nutrient elements that you would normally be consuming and that your body desires.  Fasting for weight loss can be safe and effective but there are some critical tenets you need to follow :

4.  Break your nasty habits.  Smoking, drinking, and even the consumption of caffeine can meddle with your fasting for weight reduction as well as making you unhealthy.  Many people find that fasting helps them lose their longings for unhealthy indulgences. 

5.  Drink water.  Fasting flushes your body out and extended fasting may lead to dehydration.  You want to drink masses of water to be sure you stay hydrated.  

6.  Fasting for weight loss often means drinking fruit juices.  If you’re using fruit juices for your fast, then go with only organic ones or those you squeeze yourself.  The regular fruit juices at the grocery have additives that organic ones don’t . 

7.  Enjoy herbal tea.  There are a number of weight loss teas on the market and many folks use them for different purposes.  They can relax you at bed time, help to cleanse your body, or may include herbs that basically help in weight loss. 

8.  Once you have completed your fast, replace the microflora in your gut that is used to digest your food.  You’ll find the probiotics you need to do this in a health food store and there are also yogurts on the market now that serve this purpose. 

 9.  If you’re uncertain of how a fast will work for you, consider fasting for a single 24 hour period, and see how you are feeling when you get done.  Record your leads to a diary, and look back over your fast when you are done.  Your notes may surprise you. 

10.  Rather than simply not eating, follow a diet plan that incorporates sporadic fasting.  Having a scheme to follow will make it easy for you to stick to your fast, and give you an idea of what should be expected.

Study Finds Healthy Mouth

According to a new study appearing in the American Journal of Periodontology, researchers have found a significant correlation between healthy eating and healthy gums. Specifically, those people who were not overweight, consumed a nutritious diet, and regularly exercised with moderate intensity were 40% less likely to suffer from gum disease.

Of the over-12,000 people surveyed, only 3% of the people possessed all three traits (not being overweight, eating a nutritious diet, and exercising regularly), but its interesting to note that as people added more of these traits to their arsenal, their periodontal health improved as well. Those people who possessed two of the traits were 29% less likely to suffer gum disease, and those who possessed only one of the three key traits were 16% less likely to suffer gum disease.

In statistics, there is a saying that goes like this: “Correlation is not necessarily causation.” This means that, while the correlation is statistically significant, one must decide whether it is the healthy behavior that is the cause of the healthy mouth, or the healthy mouth the cause of the healthy behavior.

Researchers pointed out that there were a few possible factors contributing to this statistical relationship. Eating healthy foods (such as lots of fresh fruits and vegetables) tends to help scrub the plaque off of teeth before it can turn into tartar, which causes pockets in the gums where bacteria can take root. Also, it has been suggested that the increased circulation that comes from exercise may help to reduce inflammation.

The bottom line is that, whether the mouth is the window into the body or the body is the window into the mouth, it’s just one other weapon to help you win the battle of the bulge. One measure of one’s self is weight. We can step onto a scale once a day and see if we have gained, lost, or maintained weight in comparison to the previous day.

  4. Take time to enjoy your food today. Sometimes we hardly taste the food when we are eating too much, we eat it so quickly, trying to stop ourselves thinking too much as we shovel it in. Actually taste everything which passes your lips today and put yourself back in control.
  5. Spend a few moments thinking about why you temporarily blew your weight loss plans. What thoughts were running through your head? What situation had you put yourself in? What can you learn from that? How will you deal with those thoughts, those situations next time because as sure as eggs are eggs they, or something similar, will happen again. Be prepared.
  6. Stay positive. Relax a little. Tell yourself “Yes, I broke my diet but that’s OK. I’m human. I’m not meant to be perfect. I’m going to treat myself well, eating healthily as much as I can. If I have the odd lapse it doesn’t change my determination to keep going.” Build yourself up. Give yourself a little (non-food) present. You deserve the best and you can do whatever you set your mind to.

 

The best way to get over a lapse is to treat it like the insignificant blip it is and just get right back on track!
