The first time I had it, I was amazed, that my body is made of 70% water! Of course unless you are a medical or biology student, this should be strange.

Experts in weight management (weight loss or weight gain) all agree that there how we manage the weight in our bodies basically determine how we look.
Let us start by understanding the role of water in our bodies before we explain its role in weight loss.
Water is basically a premium solvent in the human body. It provides a medium in which most body processes take place. It is the most effective solvent because it is neutral in composition. It is does not react with other molecules in the body because of its inert status. The biochemical process such as metabolism in the cells requires a water medium to function.
Water also serves as a transport medium for various processes in the animals. Transport of glucose is dependent on the water. Where there is inadequate supply of water, the individual would have starvation at the cell level. This also applies to the function of water as medium for transport of waste products.
Now back to weight loss, so what is the connection between the functions of water and weight loss?
First, it is the fact that you need water as a transport medium for food molecules. Every food that you eat is eventually converted into glucose, amino acids and fatty acid. The eventual point of use of these molecules is the cells. Therefore, without an effective transport system as is the case of diabetes and other diseases that compromise the cellular processes, the cells would be starved irrespective of the feeding patterns.
The amazing thing is that you may be eating so much food and yet not get the cells to have adequate amounts of nutrients. What this means is that the cells can starve yet the blood serum and the lymphatic fluids have excess of the foods. This can happen due to less amounts of water in the system.

Now, we need to explain that weight gain is a function of the communication between the brain and the cells that measure the amount of the food molecules (glucose, amino acids and fatty acids) in the blood serum or lymphatic fluids. When these food molecules (also called energy units0 are in excess of the demand, the excess is converted to energy stored in the form of fat deposits around the belly for men and in the hips or burst for women. This interpretation may happen not because the cells have adequate supply of water, but because there is not enough water to support the transport system.
With this knowledge, now you know that it is not just exercises and diet management that would lead to weight loss. To be effective, one must be able to supply the required amount of water to the body. It is recommend that we take at least 8 to 12 glasses of water per day for effective weight management.
